Pacific Rim and Voltus V

Voltus v's Tenku Ken
For me,#PacificRim is a homage to 80s Japanese monster vs robot anime (and perhaps, films like Ultra Man and Megaloman):  Go Shogun, God Sigma,&...especially: Voltus V--Remember "tenkuken"? :)

Specifically, #PacificRim  is a great homage to Voltus V where Kenichi, Megumi & her military father are the main roles, and Hong Kong Bay is their Big Facon. But  no Prince Heinell's perspective at all (nor the search of the father, one of the elements that makes the series my favorite anime of all time).

Del Toro, the director, said that he is influnced and infspired by ythe anime and tokukatsu of his youth. He specifically cites Tetsujin-28 as a major influence. Despite this, he wanted to avoid referencing other works of fiction in the design of the robots and monsters.
