Just found out that Yasmin Ahmad's Hujan (in Mukhsin) is a tribute to P Ramlee's Alunan Biola (Antara Dua Darjat) (1960). Keroncong and Rain, what a combination!
Alfatihah for Kak Yasmin and Tan Sri Puteh Ramlee
Suddenly I remember Kak Yasmin told me that after the screening of Mukhsin in JAFF, 2007, a journalist ("from the biggest newspaper in Indonesia", she said), stood and asked her fiercely: "Yasmin, why did you steal our keroncong?". "I was scared", Kak Yasmin Said.
Come on, Indonesians, be more humble. We share arts, culinary, cultures with neighboring countries, and influence each others. That's a common thing. As if Keroncong is originally from Indonesia. As If Indonesia did not borrow anything from other cultures.
